Terms of Use

Inside Story. Version 1, 29 September 2026.

Working draft. These terms describe how the app works today. They are waiting for review by a lawyer before the app is released in the app stores, and the wording may change after that review. When it changes, the app shows its agreement screen again.

Lines marked Aside are light remarks about how the app is built. They are not part of these terms and change nothing it says.

1. What Inside Story is

Inside Story is an app for keeping the records of your life in one place: food and meals, health, medicines, symptoms, routines, garden, home, money and more. It offers general information alongside those records and points out patterns in what you have logged. By using the app you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy.

2. It is not medical advice

3. Allergies

The app is allergen-aware and never allergy-safe. It flags ingredients you have told it about, using food data from public databases, recipes and product labels, any of which can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. It can miss an allergen. If you have an allergy, read every label and ask when eating out.

4. Emergencies

Nobody watches what is entered in the app, and it cannot call anyone for you. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

5. Your records and your backups

If the passcode and the recovery key are both gone, we cannot help. That is the whole point of the lock.

6. Sharing with other people

You can connect with other people who use the app and share parts of your records with them. Share only what you are comfortable with them seeing, and only records about other people that you have their permission to keep and share. Once shared, what the other person does with it is between the two of you.

7. Information from other sources

Food, product, medicine label, weather and growing zone information comes from public sources such as Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, openFDA and Open-Meteo. It is shown as those sources provide it and may contain errors. Links to outside websites and research are for reading; we do not control those sites.

8. Gardening, food preparation and other practical guidance

Guidance on growing, preserving, fermenting and preparing food follows published sources. Food safety depends on how it is carried out. Follow tested methods, and when a step is about safety (canning, fermenting, foraging), check it against a trusted local source.

9. Using the app fairly

Anyone who did break into the relay would find sealed envelopes nobody there can open. As heists go, it is a letdown.

10. Plans and payments

If paid plans are offered, they will be sold through the app store you installed the app from, under that store's payment and refund terms, and the price and what each plan includes will be shown before you buy.

11. Changes to the app and these terms

The app is updated often. Features may be added, changed or removed. When these terms change in a way that matters, they get a new version number and date here, and the app asks you to read and agree again before going on.

Often means often. The version number has been busy.

12. No guarantee, and limits on responsibility

The app is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and working, but cannot promise it will be free of errors, always available, or right for your situation. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for decisions made or harm that follows from relying on the app instead of a qualified professional, or for records lost when there was no backup. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer protection law where you live.

13. Contact and governing law

Inside Story is made by an independent developer based in Mexico. Contact details, and the law and courts that govern these terms, will be added here after legal review and before the app is released in the stores.
